Board of Directors; Government Relations Manager

Sameena Usman serves as Secure Justice’s Government Relations Manager, bringing over 21 years of experience as a strategic policy advocate for social justice, racial equity, and immigrant rights. Before joining Secure Justice, Sameena dedicated over 17 years to the San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), where she served as Senior Government Relations Coordinator. At CAIR, she successfully advocated for legislation advancing civil rights, privacy protections, and an equitable society.

In addition to her role at Secure Justice, Sameena serves as a board member for several organizations, including Asian Women Empowered (AWE), Sacred Heart Community Services, and Muslim Democrats and Friends. She is deeply committed to building bridges across communities, fostering interfaith dialogue, educating youth, and empowering the American Muslim community.

Her leadership and advocacy have earned widespread recognition. Sameena has been honored with Community Hero awards from Senator Bob Wieckowski and Assemblyman Kansen Chu, Muslim Appreciation Month recognition from Assemblyman Bill Quirk, and Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Leadership awards from Congressman Ro Khanna and Assemblyman Wieckowski. She received the Dorothy Irene Height Award from the San Jose/Silicon Valley chapter of the NAACP. In a special tribute to her impact, the City of Oakland designated May 16, 2023, as “Sameena Usman Day.”

Sameena is also a dedicated public servant. She was recently re-elected to a fourth term as an Assembly Delegate for the California Democratic Party, where she continues to champion inclusive and progressive policies and is a regular volunteer with Support Life Foundation providing food and refugee services to those in need.

Her expertise has made her a sought-after voice in the media, with interviews featured in numerous local, national, and international outlets.
