Mejgan Afshan

Advisory Board Member

Mejgan is co-founder of Borderlands for Equity, a pro bono civil rights organization focusing on raising gender equity awareness within the immigrant, refugee and greater San Diego County community. Previously, Mejgan lead CAIR San Diego as their head of Advocacy and Public Policy building strategic partnerships within the Muslim, Black, Mexican, Indigenous, LGBTQIA and marginalized communities. Mejgan served as Vice-Chair of the San Diego Refugee Forum, a coalition made up of agencies, individuals, and organizations dedicated to directly assisting the refugee community through direct services. She also served as Advisory Board Member of the San Diego Immigrant Rights Consortium, helping to establish the Borderlands Get Free Bail Bond for those in detention. Racial justice, demilitarization of our borders, government transparency, police accountability, and anti-surveillance work are a few of her ongoing passions.

Mejgan received the 2019 Ashley L. Walker Social Justice Award from Alliance San Diego at the 31st annual All Peoples Celebration.
