John Jones III is on staff with Just Cities (also known as the Dellums institute for Social Justice) where he serves as the Director of Community and Political Engagement. In that role, he serves to connect directly impacted residents with decision makers to effect positive change and empowerment.
John is born and raised in East Oakland and a father of three. Being formerly incarcerated, John fights to end the marginalization of those who have been harmed by the criminal justice system by demonstrating that transformation is possible while also seeking accountability and transparency from the government.
John holds several roles within the Community including serving as Chair of the Selection Panel for the Oakland Police Commission as well as being appointed as a Democratic Delegate for California Assembly District 18. As a result of his hard work and fearless dedication, John has received numerous accolades including being named as one of the 2016 Best of the East Bay as a Dynamo for Justice by the East Bay Express; proclaimed as a 2016 Equity Champion in a Resolution awarded by CA 18th District Assembly Member Rob Bonta; honored by the Oakland City Council twice for Black History Month Achievements as well as by the City of Emeryville for second Chance Month 2018.
